Schumacher Vs Senna, part2

"Andrea De Cesaris was not happy with the behavior of his car on an irregularities of track" - prolongs Foster. "Therefore he has take a spare bolid. When we had to repair an engine on the Michaels car I've asked Andrea whether Schumacher can use his car. He did not mind, we've interchanged seats, have customized belts, have made some little changes. Already on the first lap Michael was faster than on the turned specially for him car - and faster than Andrea".

Ayrton Senna during his debut season in 1984

On an evening briefing De Cesaris permanently complained of two waves before a Bus Stop. To his opinion the car behaved there very nervously and unpredictably. Foster - "Michael was sitting and keeping the silence. I've asked him whether there was a problem for him too. He answered: "Firstly. If to slow down there then the car behaves really nervously. This place is hard to drive with a full power. However I've tried, I has driven not taking off acceleration and the problem disappears". Andrea mistrustfully looked to Michael. He could not believe it. In the same way have disassembled with the second wave. Andrea approved that it is impossible to drive both left-hand turns on slope on the sixth gear and on fifth the car became hardly controlled. I've asked Michael once again whether he has the same problem and he has said: "Yes, for a three or four laps. Then I've tried to make this in that way - I've drove the first turn on a firth gear, then I've switched to sixth and has braked by the left leg at the same time. Then the car behaved compliantly on all this section ". Andrea looked shocked. Michael didn't even thought that it is necessary to mention about his "discovering" because he guessed that all others acts the same. How it is possible to drive differently there?"

So, the Schumachers era has really began. Foster agrees that Schumacher and Senna are built of the one stuff. "When they wake up in the morning they both feel internal need to demonstrate that they are the best. It does not depend on the the strength of their team at this moment. It's just they are, they are who always wants to be the best. We already saw unbelievable Michael's shows in the rain. He oftenly keeps on car with the rainy setup and another one with dry up to the last moment if there is no assurance of what will be the weather. Then he drives one circle on the first car and one on the second. And for two minutes before closing the pitlane he decides: "ОК, there will be a rain and I'll take this one."

For example - Barcelona'96 when he has brought the first victory for Ferrari. "He made a fools of all the peleton because he was the one who decided to go to the race with only rain adjustments. Besides he drove with two pit-stops while others have scheduled only one. He made a poor start and seem to stick in the peleton. He has finished the first lap on the seventh place. Many people has thought at that moment: "Well, he won't receive nothing at this time". But Michael has said to himself: "I need a 12 seconds of advantage before all in 20 laps". He overtook on an outer radius one rival and on internal one - another. This is the difference of Michael from all other pilots. It's they are, "Michaels", who won the races"

So who is the best of them? On whom would stake Foster - on 30-years old Senna or 30 years old Schumacher? "It's hard. Nevertheless I would stake on Michael because I think that the driver can be estimated only with a background of his straight line competitors. In this way the Michael's advantage on all the rivals is bigger than was for Senna"

Eddie Jordan was that person, which one has granted the first car to Ayrton Senna in Formula 3 and, certainly, to Michael Schumacher in the Formula 1. If you would give him an opportunity to speak a little more then he will said that he has supplied Damon Hill with his first Formula 3 contract.

"What is the difference between Schumacher and Senna and all other people? " - rhetorically exclaims Jordan and gives the lightning answer: "They have especial something which one happens only for the highest class sportsmen which are predominant in their kind of sports. They have an amazing assurance in their strength. They know that they can achieve everything with their own mights. They don't puzzle over whether their aims are accessible, they simplly reach them. Deep inside they know it and trust in it. This virtues are optionally transmitted to other spheres of their human activity, they make a mistakes as well as all other people. But if they sit in a cockpit - they are just inaccessible. They know what and when they need. And they have a certain sixth feeling: they always find the best team for themselves in which one they can made the best they can. The history demonstrates that the best pilots are always appeared in the best cars, it's just a self-adjusting system which doesn't require the outside intervention. It's simply happens".

Both Ayrton and Michael are the masters of the rainy races.

And on whom of our heroes would stoke Eddie himself? "It depends on certain circumstances. In a rain they would show the mad duels because both were, and Schumacher still is a fancy rain racers. One of the most incredible maneuvers which I ever saw was when Senna overtook two or three cars at once on an exterior of turn Stowe in Silverstone while other pilots experienced a problems to hold their cars on a track. He saw that on an exterior there was slightly best coupling with a surface of a track and simply flew by by the rivals. I was admired. On the other hand I must say that Schumacher can do this too. If to say honestly I think that no one can rival with Michael in a rain. Senna could.... But he committed a mistakes. Michael commits less. I said that despite of Spa'98. I don't think that it was Michaels mistake. I think that it was just a usual racing incident.".

The Ferrari designer Rory Burn has worked with Senna in Toleman in 1984 and then with Schumacher in Benetton. "It's very hard to compare them" - he speaks - "because there is almost 10 years between their careers and Formula 1 has changed signfully for this time. Michael demonstrates the same skills as Senna at his time - concentration on details and absolute recoil. And they are waiting the same things from the people which surrounds them, from teams. I would say that they are the same in one thing - they always unshakably trust that they can win any race. A classic example - Spa'95. Michael has fail in qualification session because he appeared on a track not in the best moment for it. He could show only 16th time. And despite of it he has won this race. I'm sure that from the very first moment he saw his aim and didn't miss it for a minute".
