A fast lap with Jarno Trulli

The pit straight is followed by the Variante Goodyear, which is a double chicane. You have a left and right, and then a left and right again. You brake about 110-120 metres before the chicane and change from sixth gear to second. You try to cut the corner by jumping over the kerbs, which is very important for a quick lap time. Some cars are better than others at doing it. It is also very difficult because if you hit the kerbs too hard you can damage something on the car, so you must always be careful.
The exit of this chicane is very important because it is followed by a long flat-out part all the way up to sixth gear, round the Curva Grande to the Seconda Variante, which is a left/right chicane. Again, you try to cut the corner and you take it in second gear. You are up to fourth when you arrive at Lesmo 1. You shift down to third but this is a difficult corner because it's very, very long. You then shift up to fourth before arriving at the second Lesmo, where you go back down to third gear. It's important to come out very quickly because there is another long straight.
So you go through Serraglio and arrive at Variante Ascari, which is a left, right, left corner. You brake about 80 metres before entry and shift down to third for the first part. Then, in the middle of the right-hand corner, you shift up to fouth before heading down the long straight to the Parabolica.
This is the nicest corner on the track and one of the quickest. You arrive in sixth gear, brake hard and shift to third at the '50-metre' board. You brake really late to get into the corner as quick as possible and then go up through the gears on the long, long exit on to the pit straight.
