A change of ownership for this team, effectively the French national F1 challenge for years. Most significantly is the lack of a Frenchman in the race line-up which this season consists of Martin Brundle and Mark Blundell. Eric Bernard will be their test driver. Here are two no-nonsense British racing drivers, capable of lifting Ligier to a level not yet attained by the Renault-engined team. It may take half a season for Ligier to realise this potential but, believe me, it is there.
Martin Brundle and Mark Blundell form a strong all-British line-up for the Ligier Renault team in 1993. Brundle learned a lot as Michael Schumacher's teammate at Benetton. He understands racing and finishing well but is handicapped a little by his inability to speak French...yet. Blundell is a former Williams and McLaren test driver and knows well what a good F1 car should be like. One of his strengths is that he does not realise just how fast he is but, like Brundle, he needs to learn to speak French. |
